Trail Rides

Little Harbour Stables offers exciting trail rides to people with some experience riding. Riders should know the basics - walk, trot, turn, stop - and be comfortable at a trot. All riders will be expected to demonstrate their abilities before hitting the trails. Little Harbour Stables has the right to refuse anyone who is unable to demonstrate the necessary skills required for a safe trail ride. Trail rides run from Tuesday to Sunday (closed Mondays) and our season typically begins in April and continues until the end of November, sometimes extending into December if the weather allows. Trail rides are by appointment only. Little Harbour Stables has a 200lb weight restriction.

Horseback riding is a fantastic way to explore Cape Breton Island. Whether you're a visitor traveling to Cape Breton for the first time or you live here, our trail rides are sure to impress. Ride a horse along beautiful, sandy Point Michaud Beach or explore the wide open pastures and beaches in the L'Ardoise Community Pasture.


L'Ardoise Community Pasture Ride

    Length/Price: 1/2 hour ride ($25/person) or 1 hour ride ($40/person)
    Description: The L'Ardoise Community Pasture ride has a lot to offer. This ride will begin along a short, quiet wooded trail that takes us to the East side of the Community Pasture. Once inside the L'Ardoise Community Pasture, riders will enjoy beautiful views of open fields ending on sandy beaches and the wide open Atlantic Ocean. The L'Ardoise Community Pasture ride takes us over a variety of terrain including sandy beaches, rugged shores and pastures.


Point Michaud Beach Ride

    Length/Price: approx. 1.5 hours ($60/person)
    Description: The Point Michaud Beach ride is our most popular trail ride. This ride begins on a rugged trail in the L'Ardoise Community Pasture and then continues along a sandy trail overlooking Western Beach, with beautiful scenery of the Atlantic Ocean on one side and a lake on the other. It is not uncommon to see seals in the ocean off Western Beach and we've even spotted whales on a few occasions. Then on to Pt. Michaud Beach, a gorgeous 3 kilometer long sandy beach located in sheltered Michaud Cove. Here the riders will have an opportunity to ride their horses into the ocean as we travel down Pt. Michaud beach.
